Sorry/Grateful is a re-imagining of the Sondehim song, written for the Liaisons project. the original has always been one of my favorite Sondheim songs; it embodies so deeply the vagaries of the human heart. At times I found it physically painful to rip the music away from its perfectly harmonious lyrics. But I tried valiantly to preserve the ruminative and yearning quality of the original for Tony. My Sorry/Grateful is exactly 80 bars long, in tribute to Steve. Here's to the next 40 measures!
