SOLO INSTRUMENT - Three Funk Studies (1991) - (piano)

Program Notes:
Three Funk Studies are the oldest pieces in my catalog which I have released for performance. These short movements each examine the 'sharp 9' chord (1, 7, 12), from distinct perspectives. I wrote the first one in Jerusalem and the last two in New York. The first one, Step, constructs a counterpoint from horizontal gestures; the second, Lullaby, explores the vertical chord in various contexts, mirroring and inverting it; the third, Jaunt, combines the horizontal and vertical approaches.
